Privacy Policy

At Tenable Network Security, Inc. and its parent, subsidiary, and affiliated companies (collectively, “Tenable” or “We”), your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy describes Tenable’s privacy practices in relation to (i) information that we collect through websites operated by Tenable (the “Site”), and (ii) human resources data of Tenable employees. As used in this policy, “You” or “Your” refers to any individual who visits or otherwise uses the Site or is an employee of Tenable. By using the Site, You accept and agree to the practices outlined in this Privacy Policy. If You have any questions or concerns about Tenable’s information collection and use practices, please send an email stating Your questions, requests, or concerns, with the subject heading, “Privacy Policy Question” to [email protected].

This Privacy Policy does not apply to the practices of third parties that Tenable does not own or control or to individuals that Tenable does not employ or manage.

Privacy Frameworks

Tenable complies with the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework and the Swiss-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use, and retention of personal information transferred from the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland to the United States, respectively. Tenable has certified to the Department of Commerce that it adheres to the Privacy Shield Principles. If there is any conflict between the terms in this privacy policy and the Privacy Shield Principles, the Privacy Shield Principles shall govern. What Type of Information Does Tenable Collect?

“Personally Identifiable Information” is information that identifies You as an individual or relates to an identifiable individual, including information such as: full name, company name, job title, email address, telephone number, company address, or home address. To the extent You utilize our online store, You may also provide Personally Identifiable Information in the form of Your credit card information and mailing address. If you submit any Personally Identifiable Information, relating to yourself or any third party, to Tenable or to our service providers in connection with the Site, You represent that You have authority to do so and to permit Tenable to use and store that information provided in accordance with this Privacy Policy. You warrant that You have the authority to provide Personally Identifiable Information to Tenable in connection with the use of the Site.

Tenable may also collect other information that does not reveal specific individual identity, such as browser or device information, information collected through cookies and other technologies that are used to facilitate Tenable’s operation of the Site and other business purposes. Tenable may also identify and log automatically in our servers, or in third party log files, IP Addresses whenever You access our site, along with the time of the visit and the page(s) visited.

Tenable (a) processes personal data it receives from the EU, United Kingdom (UK), and Switzerland and subsequent transfers of such personal data to a third party acting on its behalf under the respective Privacy Shield Framework, (b) complies with the Privacy Shield Principles, and (c) is subject to the enforcement power of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. Tenable shall cooperate with EU data protection authorities (DPAs), UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), and the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) to resolve any employee complaints regarding human resources data transferred from the EU, UK, and/or Switzerland in the context of the employment relationship. In certain situations, Tenable may be required to disclose personal data in response to lawful requests by public authorities, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements.

How Does Tenable Collect My Information?

Tenable may collect Personally Identifiable Information from You through our Sites at different events: such as when You request a demo; register for a webinar, event or promotion; contact us via email or live chat; subscribe to our newsletter; respond to a survey; register for our partner programs; download content; access customer support portals; apply to a job opening on our careers page; or when You purchase, register or apply online for products or services.

Tenable may also collect Personally Identifiable Information from You offline such as during phone calls and meeting with sales and support representatives, when You attend our events, or when You contact customer service.

Tenable may also obtain information about You from other sources such as public databases, joint marketing partners, social media platforms, and from other third parties.

How Does Tenable Use My Information?

We may use Your Personally Identifiable Information, as well as Your name, email address, telephone number, and/or mailing address:

  • to deliver the services You request;
  • to evaluate Your registration or application for our products and services;
  • to process Your payment of products and software;
  • to process Your request for information;
  • to contact You if Tenable needs more information;
  • to contact You in connection with Your inappropriate use of the Site;
  • for internal marketing purposes to obtain feedback on our products, the Site or on other aspects of our business;
  • to send administrative information to You, such as information regarding the Site and changes to our terms and policies;
  • to notify You of new products, services, webinars and training sessions that we think may be of interest to You;
  • to send You promotional materials;
  • to collaborate with other companies and people to perform tasks on Your behalf and to provide products or services to You;
  • to allow You to participate in sweepstakes, contests and similar promotions and to administer such activities. Promotions may have additional rules which may contain additional terms about how we use and disclose Personally Identifiable Information
  • to share Personally Identifiable Information with a business partner or other third party sponsors to promotions; and
  • to provide You with newsletters.

If You prefer not to receive promotional materials, our email newsletter or other forms of communication, You may choose to opt-out or manage Your email subscriptions on the following link: http://www.tenable.com/contact-tenable/tenable-email-subscription-management. . Tenable will honor Your requests to opt out of specified emails, phone calls and marketing materials. Tenable may however maintain Your information for internal purposes. Furthermore, except as stated in this Privacy Policy, Tenable will not sell, rent, share or otherwise disclose to third parties the Personally Identifiable Information collected on the Site. Tenable may use, process, and/or store Your Personally Identifiable Information in the United States and/or internationally. Tenable may share Your Personally Identifiable Information with its agents in furtherance of whatever purpose You disclosed the information to Tenable originally. Tenable may transfer Your Personally Identifiable Information to a successor entity, which will be bound by the terms of this Privacy Policy if Tenable merges with another company or substantially all of its outstanding shares of capital stock and/or assets are sold.

Tenable may also disclose Your Personally Identifiable Information if necessary or appropriate:

  • under applicable law;
  • to comply with legal process;
  • to respond to requests from government authorities;
  • to enforce Tenable’s terms of service;
  • to protect Tenable’s operations or those of any of our Affiliates;
  • to protect Tenable’s rights, privacy, safety or property, and/or that of our Affiliates or others.

Tenable may also use a third party to process Your Personally Identifiable Information, including a third party for credit and debit card processing for online sales and credit card transactions, and third party marketing and lead generation platforms, in which case we will allow such third parties to access Your Personally Identifiable Information. We may also transfer Your Personally Identifiable Information to our authorized resellers for the purpose of further marketing our products to You.

Tenable uses IP addresses to calculate usage levels of the Site, help identify issues with its servers and security incidents, administer the Site and monitor the region from which You navigate to the Site. Tenable may also use anonymized information, such as aggregate data about visitors to the Site, to determine how to improve the Site, marketing and services, to determine how visitors find out about the Site and which of our online services most interest visitors to the Site. Tenable may share anonymized information with third parties.

Tenable shall remain liable under the Privacy Shield Principles for onward transfers to its agents, if its agent processes Privacy Shield information in a manner inconsistent with the Principles, unless Tenable can prove that it is not responsible for the event giving rise to the damage.

Does Tenable Collect Information About Children?

We respect the sensitive nature of children’s privacy online. You must be at least eighteen (18) years old to register, purchase or apply online for our products, services, promotions and other activities. If You are under the age of eighteen (18), please do not provide us with any type of information about Yourself. Tenable is not liable for any information provided to us by a person under the age of eighteen (18).

What Type of Safeguards Does Tenable Use?

The security and confidentiality of Your Personally Identifiable Information is extremely important to Tenable. Tenable implements organizational, technical, administrative, and physical security measures to help protect Your Personally Identifiable Information from loss, improper use and unauthorized access, disclosure and modification. From time to time, we review our security procedures in order to consider appropriate new technology and methods. Please be aware that, despite our best efforts, no security measure is perfect or impenetrable and therefore there is always some risk assumed by sharing Personally Identifiable Information online. If You have reason to believe Your account has been compromised, please immediately notify us at: [email protected]. If an unauthorized party gains access to the Site, Tenable shall not be liable for any information that is accessed or compromised.

Your California Privacy Rights

Under California law, a California resident who has provided Tenable with Personally Identifiable Information (a “California Customer”) is entitled to request certain information with respect to the types of Personally Identifiable Information that Tenable has shared with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. In accordance with California law, Tenable will, in response to Your written request, provide You with the means to choose not to have Your information shared.

Except as otherwise stated in this Privacy Policy (including, but not limited to, sharing information with our third party resellers), we will not share Your Personally Identifiable Information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes unless You affirmatively agree to such disclosure. To prevent further disclosure to Your Personally Identifiable Information from use in direct marketing by a third party, do not opt-in to such use when You provide Personally Identifiable Information on the Site. If You opt-in to receive communication from a third party, Your Personally Identifiable Information will be subject to the third party’s privacy policy. If You later decide that You do not want that third party to use Your Personally Identifiable Information, You must contact that third party directly, as Tenable has no control over a third party’s use of Personally Identifiable Information. You should always review the privacy policy of any party that collects Your information to determine how that entity will handle Your information.

In compliance with the Privacy Shield Principles, Tenable commits to resolve complaints about your privacy and our collection or use of your personal information. Changes to Privacy Policy

Tenable may change this Privacy Policy at any time without notice. If Tenable changes this Privacy Policy, we will post the changed Privacy Policy on the Site so that You are always aware of what type of information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it to third parties.
